LUST

She is an underwater volcano simmering beneath a carpet
of oilfish. When the bubbles break against her skin,
she sounds like clicks from a coral reef. When the bubbles
break in a thousand hotel sinks--after the soap, the rub--
all you'll find are white asterisks popping in the air.
The sun cherries itself into the sand. But when he comes
to her, she twists the stem with teeth and yes, the tongue.

SHELTER

Give me
a church carved
entirely of salt.
Let the walls hiss
and smoke--but never
break--not even
with our tears.
